Why do I see a “declined” transaction?Updated a month ago
A “declined” transaction means your bank didn’t approve a payment attempt. It’s usually caused by a small mismatch, and most of the time you’ll see a second transaction right after it, marked “pending,” which is the one that went through.
Did my order go through?
If you received an order confirmation email, your order was placed. You can also check your order status on our Track Your Order page. If you didn’t receive a confirmation email, the order wasn’t completed and you can try again.
One exception: if your email address had a typo at checkout, your order may have gone through but the confirmation went to the wrong email address. If you see a pending charge but no email, contact us with your name and shipping address and we’ll check for the order.
Will I be charged for the declined transaction?
No. A declined transaction is a temporary authorization hold, not a charge. Your bank releases it automatically, typically within a few business days, though the exact timing depends on your bank.
Common reasons a card is declined
- A typo in the card number, expiration date, or security code
- The billing address or ZIP code doesn’t match what your bank has on file
- Your bank flagged the purchase for fraud review (this can happen even if the card works elsewhere)
- Insufficient available funds or a card limit
- An international card that your bank blocks for online purchases
What to do
- Double-check the card details and billing address, then try once more.
- Avoid submitting the order several times in a row — each attempt can create another temporary hold.
- If it declines again, contact your bank. They can see the reason and approve the purchase.
- If a hold hasn’t dropped off after several business days, contact your bank first, as they control the release.
