My child has outgrown kids' sizes, what size do they wear next?Updated a month ago
When your child outgrows our largest kids' size (Big Kids Y4), the next step up is a Women's 6, about a half size larger than a Y4. Women's styles work great for any kid, and several of our most popular kids' styles are available in adult sizes, so they can keep wearing the shoes they already love!
| Range | Sizes | When they outgrow it |
|---|---|---|
| Little Kids | 6-11 | Move to a Big Kids 12 |
| Big Kids | 12-4 | Move to a Women's 6 |
| Womens | 5-12 | Move to a Mens 11 |
| Mens | 6.5-15 |
Once your child reaches about a Women's 8, they can also fit a Men's 6.5 if they prefer men's styles or colors. Men's styles are built a little wider, so this can be a good move for kids with wider feet.
Which styles carry over to adult sizes?
If your child loves a particular style, look for the same name in Women's or Men's. Most other adult styles are also great first "grown-up" shoes, the wide toe box and flexible sole are the same across every size!
Getting the fit right
- Leave room to grow. Aim for about a thumb's width (roughly ½ inch / 1.3 cm) between the longest toe and the end of the shoe. If your child is between sizes, choose the larger one.
- Ordering the Kids' Z-Trail sandal? Print the size template for Kids 12 through Youth 4 at the bottom of our Sizing & Fitting page and compare it directly to your child's foot. Print at 100% scale and check with a ruler.
- Not sure? Exchanges are free on all US orders, so it's easy to swap sizes if the first pair isn't quite right.
